🌱 Natural Bug Repellent for Plants:

Garlic Oil Spray

Garlic isn’t just for cooking—it’s also a powerful natural insect repellent. The sulfur compounds in garlic deter many soft-bodied insects, like aphids, spider mites, whiteflies, and even some beetles. A garlic oil spray is easy to make, affordable, and safe for most garden plants.

🧄 What You’ll Need:

2 whole garlic bulbs (not just cloves)

1 cup vegetable oil

1 tsp mild dish soap (like Castile or eco-friendly options)

1 quart (4 cups) water

Fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth

Spray bottle

🧪 How to Make It:

Peel and crush the garlic bulbs.

Use a mortar and pestle, food processor, or chop finely.

Soak in oil.

Place the garlic in a jar with the vegetable oil. Let it infuse for 24 to 48 hours.

Strain the mixture.

Use cheesecloth or a fine mesh strainer to remove all garlic solids.

Add water and soap.

Mix 1 tablespoon of the garlic oil concentrate with 1 quart of water and 1 teaspoon of dish soap. Stir well.

Pour into a spray bottle.

Label and store in a cool, dark place. Use within a week or two for best results.

🌼 How to Use:

Spray on plant leaves, especially the undersides where pests often hide.

Best applied in the early morning or evening, to avoid leaf burn from sunlight.

Test on a small area of the plant first to check for sensitivity.

✅ Tips:

Reapply after rain or heavy watering.

Avoid overuse, as garlic is potent and may repel beneficial insects if over-applied.

Store the unused concentrate in the fridge for up to a week.
